Everyday Myopia Care

Everyday Care Checklist

  • Wear the glasses or contact lenses prescribed for your child and follow the clinician’s instructions.
  • Keep reading material at a comfortable distance rather than very close to the face.
  • Use comfortable lighting for reading and screen tasks.
  • Reduce glare and adjust the workspace so the child can sit comfortably.
  • Take regular breaks from prolonged close work and look into the distance.
  • Vary activities during the day instead of long uninterrupted sessions of near work.
  • Make regular outdoor play part of the routine, with suitable sun protection.
  • Ask about any persistent eyestrain, headaches or difficulty changing focus.
  • Balance screen use with other activities and avoid replacing outdoor time with screens.
  • Attend follow-up visits and discuss changes in vision. Exercises for a diagnosed binocular-vision problem are not a substitute for myopia control.

Use this checklist to prepare questions for your optometrist. It supports everyday care and is not a do-it-yourself treatment or a replacement for an eye examination.

Your questions answered

Can I manage my child’s myopia without an examination?

No. Symptoms and internet checklists cannot establish the prescription, eye health or the most suitable management.

Should I buy reading glasses or use eye exercises to reverse myopia?

Do not self-prescribe either as a myopia cure. Follow advice for any diagnosed focusing problem and discuss myopia control separately.
